Chuseok Vacation in Busan!

This past weekend was Chuseok, which is Korean Thanksgiving. Everyone goes back to their hometowns to spend time with their family, so the highways are a hot mess and hotels are in short supply. Still, some friends and I went to Busan, a beach city less than two hours away from Daegu.

In short, Busan was nice, but it honestly doesn't compare to Daegu. Obviously, I make that assertion based on only three days of experiencing the city, which seems unfair -- oh well, life's not fair. :-) Busan has awesome beaches and a much more diverse food scene than Daegu. But in every other way, Daegu wins out for me and has really become home. My friends and I echoed sentiments of happiness when we stepped back onto our subway to return to our neighborhoods. In such a short time, I've adapted to the Daegu lifestyle, and especially now that I've learned how to quickly create effective and engaging lesson plans, I have tons of free time. #capoeira #readingbooks. Would I like to visit Busan again? Sure! Live there? Ehh...nope, Busan might be for you, but for me, there's no place like Daegu.

Here's a quick photo walkthrough of my vacation. Please excuse the photo quality; these were all taken with my phone (but still look pretty good, if I do say so myself).
My favorite picture from along the coast of Busan!

A friend and I were walking and stumbled upon the love motel district. If you don't know what that is, check this out.

Entrance to Haedong Yonggungsa Buddhist Temple
Looking out from near the temple

Given that it was Chuseok, there were Korean people inside the temple giving thanks to their ancestors.

I am actually not quite sure if this is Buddha, but this image can be seen throughout the temple area.

Just getting a different angle

Altogether, Busan was refreshing and it was nice to visit somewhere outside Daegu. But I'm happy to be back!
